She thought she was going no. 2 – but it turned out to be Kiddo no. 3
Helen and Michael Green, both 45, were on vacation in Toronto, Canada, for a 10-day road trip with their 6-year-old daughter Darcy-all they had no idea that Helen was nine months pregnant.
They arrived in their Holiday Inn Hotel room on May 21 and entered bed until 11:00
Less than three hours later, Britain from Bristol woke up with stomach pain and ran to the bathroom with “sudden incentive to push”.
“I didn’t know what was happening, my body just got over,” she shared with the sins. “After two massive impetus, it was a baby, so I chose it from Loo and kept it in my arms.”
Imagine her husband’s shock when she woke up from the sound of a crying baby.
Michael immediately called the first response and a fire crew arrived within 10 minutes to take them to Mount Sinai Hospital.
“I was in such a strange state. We could hardly work what was happening,” Michael said. “We didn’t know if the baby was fine or if it was full of mandate. We didn’t even check if it was a boy or a girl – a paramedic told us.”
Helen had experienced what the medical benefits called a secret pregnancy – despite experiencing regular periods along the way.
“I had no idea that I was pregnant; everything looked completely normal,” Helen said. “I worked, exercised. I wore the same clothes and ate the same food as usual.”
“Even the doctors in the hospital were really surprised.”
Helen had no symptoms during pregnancy and experienced a series of abortions after Darcy was born, so she assumed it was perimenopausal.
“In the hospital, they kept asking me about pregnancy and I couldn’t answer them, I just kept saying” I don’t know. “
Helen, who also has an 18-year-old son, Harry, claimed she had “mass bumps” during her previous two pregnancies.
Although it was “such a big, big shock,” the family is pleased with the “beautiful surprise” of their now 11-year-old daughter, Olivia, whom they named after one of the nurses in the hospital.
“She just came together and feels like she’s always been with us,” Helen said. “Everything feels full now. She has made us all so happy.”
Michael, who works on financial services, agreed. “So crazy and still feel surreal,” he said. “It’s been such a time. It is such a joy!”
Family and friends were reported deceived when Helen and Michael sent text messages saying, “Don’t worry, but Helen is in the hospital”, along with a photo of Darcy holding Olivia.
Mom and baby were fired the next day, but because Olivia had no documents, they could not leave Canada and had to wait for birth certificates and passports.
“The recording of her birth was a nightmare. All we had we were letters from the hospital,” Hellenic explained. “There was confusion if she was a birth at home because she was born in a hotel, or birth in the hospital because the placenta surrendered to a hospital.”
They had to receive documents signed by doctors and paramedicants, and said the whole process was “very drainage and stressful”.
The family fought their bureaucratic problems by bringing their four days to one of Toronto’s architectural wonders, the CN tower, visiting Niagara Falls-two times and participating in three baseball games.
“After all, we got an extended holiday and had a really special time together,” Helen said. “It was very difficult not to know how long we would be there, and very stressful on the days of the week following the birth certificate and passport, but excellent on weekends when all the offices were closed and there was nothing we could do about it.”
The family was eventually able to fly home on June 25 – more than a month after their Canadian tour began – and spent about $ 12,200 more than expected, including about $ 5,400 in hospital fees, over $ 2,700 in hotels, and nearly $ 1,400 for rental car, baby flights and living costs.
But they said that insurance of traveling will hopefully cover most of those costs.
“Getting your head to having a baby is difficult, but it’s something else when you didn’t know you were pregnant,” Helen said.
“Within a few days, as soon as he began to feel known that I had a baby, and such joy.”
